Traits
Color Shift (Basic)
Flesh or markings that have the ability to change color.
- This trait allows for the addition of new colors without the need for an item. Any new colors can only be applied to the area affected by the trait — adding new colors elsewhere on the body requires a Betta Brush.
- Can affect up to 100% of the body.
- CANNOT change the patterns of a Terralien. Moving or changing patterns require the Moving Patterns trait.
- Color Shift CANNOT add colors to the base design’s palette — it can only change already existing colors. If another color is added during the shift, the Morphing trait is also required.
- Color shift applied to the visor requires the Multi-colored Visor trait.
- A Fallen Tail is required per each individual palette added. Subtypes that have access to this trait freely when designing are allowed one free palette — additional palettes require a Fallen Tail.
- All alternate palettes are required to be shown on the masterlist image.

Feathers (Basic)
Plumage resembling the feathers found on avians.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Cannot mimic wings without the addition of the Wings trait.
- Feathers must be attached to the body. Floating feathers require the Holograms trait.

A Furpop is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:
- Sprout
- Bug

Pouch (Basic)
A pouch or pocket made of skin, typically found on the belly of a Terralien.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can be located anywhere on the body.
- Must appear natural and fused to the body — cannot mimic the Material Parts trait.

A Plant Pouch is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:

Iridescence (Basic)
Flesh or markings that reflect light in multiple colors.
- This trait allows for the addition of new colors without the need for an item. Any new colors can only be applied to the area affected by the trait — adding new colors elsewhere on the body requires a Betta Brush.
- Cannot resemble the Material Parts, Metallic Shimmer or Glitter traits without the addition of said traits.

A Crystal Conch is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:
- Bug
- Sprout
- Beast

Transparency (Basic)
Allows parts of a Terralien’s body to be see-through, typically to reveal their skeleton or internal organs.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can affect up to 50% of the body for most Terraliens, but can affect up to 100% of the body for the Microbe. Synthetic, and Edible subtypes (visor and sensors must still be completely visible).
- See-through fins DO NOT require the Transparency trait.
- CANNOT resemble the Terrarium Body trait. A glassy effect or transparency revealing non-organic parts qualifies as Terrarium Body and not Transparency.

A Jellocto Bell is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:
- Bug

Exoskeleton (Basic)
Large, bony, exterior plates, similar to those found on insects.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can vary in shape and texture. Plates should resemble the armor of an insect, unless other traits are applied to change the appearance of the exoskeleton.
- CANNOT resemble a Shell or clothing.
- Can be paired with the Material Parts trait to create non-organic armor.
- Can be shiny, but cannot mimic Iridescence, Material Parts, or Metallic Shimmer without said traits also being applied.
- Can appear bone-like, but can't mimic Transparency or Fossilized Parts without said traits also being applied.
- Can be paired with the Hooves trait to create mantis-like arms or legs.

Scales (Basic)
Small, overlapping plates similar to the scales found on Fish.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can vary in shape and size, but CANNOT be large enough to resemble the Exoskeleton trait or armor.
- Can be shiny, but CANNOT resemble Iridescence, Material Parts or Metallic Shimmer without those traits also being applied.

Hood (Basic)
A covering of the head or neck. May or may not be functional.
- This trait allows for the addition of new colors without the need for an item. Any new colors can only be applied to the area affected by the trait — adding new colors elsewhere on the body requires a Betta Brush.
- Can resemble:
- Hooded sweatshirts: Can have hoodie strings without aglets for free. Aglets on the hoodie strings would require the Material Parts trait.
- Caps: Caps, such as mushroom caps or jellyfish bells, may be added via the Plant Growth (Mushroom cap) trait or Tentacles trait (Jellyfish Bells).
- Fins/Webbing: “Wings” found connected to the heads of marine animals like Manta Rays can be applied by combining the Fins/Webbing trait and the Hood trait.
- Living parts: Teeth on the rim of the hood, functional/3D eyes, or limbs on the hood require the Living Parts trait in addition to the hood trait.
- Fur tufts: Large tufts of fur around the neck, or fur resembling a mane requires the Fur trait in addition to the Hood trait.
- CANNOT resemble:
- Material parts: 3D stitching that separates different colors requires both the Charms and Material Parts traits in addition to the hood trait. While hoodie strings are free with the Hood trait, strings with aglets require the Material Parts trait.

Fins/Webbing (Basic)
Aquatic fins, frills, and/or webbing.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can vary in shape, size, thickness, and transparency without requiring the transparency trait.
- CANNOT be used to mimic the Aquatic Tail trait.
- CANNOT be placed on the visor tank.

A Moonfin is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:
- Sprout
- Bug

Tentacles (Basic)
Prehensile tentacles, tendrils and/or suction cups.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can vary in size, shape, texture, or quantity.
- Can be paired with Aquatic Tail to create a tentacle tail. Multiple tentacle tails require the Duplicated Parts trait.
- Can be combined with the Plant Growth trait to create prehensile vines.

A Jelloctobell is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:

Ears (Basic)
External ears that allow for enhanced hearing.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can mimic any animal ear, so long as it clearly displays some sort of opening to an ear canal. If there is no ear canal present, the Antenna trait should be applied instead. Some exceptions apply to those that aren't visible but show clear resemblance to an existing animal ear — such as floppy ears that may cover the canal.
- Ears that do not protrude from the body (such as Reptilian ears) do not require the Ears trait.
- Multiple sets of ears requires the Duplicated Parts trait.

A Hare of Hearing is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:

Shell (Basic)
A protective casing on the back of a Terralien similar to shells found on Mollusks, Reptiles, or Crustaceans.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can vary in shape and texture. Must resemble shells that occur naturally on animals like Mollusks, Reptiles, or Crustaceans.
- Can be shiny, but CANNOT mimic Iridescence, Material Parts or Metallic Shimmer without said traits also being applied.
- CANNOT resemble the Exoskeleton trait.

A Shellpot is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:

Fur (Basic)
A layer of fur resembling the coat of a mammal.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Hair of any style or type falls under the fur trait, even if it is not present anywhere else on the body.
- Can resemble:
- EYES: Eye markings are allowed as long as they are flat and not given any depth/definition. 3D eyes, or eyes that move/emote, require the Eyes on Body trait.
- STITCHING: Must be flat to the body and not connect two different colors of fur. 3D stitching requires the Charms trait. If stitching patterns OR charms connect two different fur colors or patterns, the Material Parts trait is required.
- CLOTHING: Fur markings can mimic clothing to an extent as long as the pattern is flat to the body. For visual reference, please follow this guide.
- CANNOT resemble:

- FEATHERS: For fur shaped and layered to resemble feathers, the Feathers trait must be applied in addition to fur.
- MATERIAL PARTS: See above for fur-mimicking clothing.
- HOODS: For a furry hood, both the Fur and Hood traits must be applied.
- TAIL SHAPES: For subtype-specific tails, fur must be applied in addition to the subtype tail trait. For example, a shark tail made of fur would require both the Aquatic Tail and Fur traits, not one or the other.
- Can cover the visor, visor band, and sensors so long as the majority of it is uncovered, or a side reference displaying what the visor and its contents looks like uncovered is provided.
- Can be any size, texture, thickness, etc.

Glitter (Basic)
Small, sparkling markings that shimmer under light.
- This trait allows for the addition of new colors without the need for an item. Any new colors can only be applied to the area affected by the trait — adding new colors elsewhere on the body requires a Betta Brush.
- CANNOT glow unless the Bioluminescence trait is added.
This trait is applicable to the following subtypes for free when submitting a new design:

A Trinket Orb is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:
- Sprout
- Bug
- Beast
- Amphibian
- Reptilian

Bioluminescence (Basic)
Markings and/or body parts that glow.
- This trait allows for the addition of new colors without the need for an item. Any new colors can only be applied to the area affected by the trait — adding new colors elsewhere on the body requires a Betta Brush.
- Bioluminescence can affect up to 100% of the body.
- Bioluminescence can affect the visor.
- CANNOT mimic Charms or Glitter unless both traits are applied.
- For markings to change or move with Bioluminesence, the Moving Patterns trait is required.
- All glowing parts must be shown on the masterlist image for this trait to be applied. Please follow this guide on how to properly display Bioluminesence.

A Fallen Tail is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:

Wings (Basic)
Functional or non-functional wings resembling that of a bird, dragon, bat, bug, etc.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can vary in shape, quantity, placement, and size.
- Wings more than double the size of the body require the Stretched Parts trait.
- Each additional set of wings requires one Monstera Bat. Subtypes that have access to this trait freely when designing are allowed up to two sets of wings — with each additional pair requiring one Monstera Bat each.
- Wings with feathers or webbing DO NOT require the Feathers or Fins/Webbing trait unless feathers or webbing is applied elsewhere on the body.
- Wings can be retractable from an Exoskeleton or a Shell as long as the wings are shown in full somewhere on the masterlist image.

A Monstera Bat is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:

Spikes/Thorns (Basic)
Sharp, typically solid growths that protrude from the body.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Can vary in location, size, shape, and texture.
- Cannot mimic other traits such as Horns or Charms without said traits being applied.
- Can be shiny, but cannot mimic Iridescence, Material Parts or Metallic Shimmer without said traits being applied.
- Spikes filled with liquid require the Terrarium Keratin trait.

Hooves (Basic)
Hooves that replace one or both hands and/or feet.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the Terralien’s pre-existing body colors. Adding new colors requires the use of a Betta Brush.
- Hooves can vary in shape, size, color, and texture.
- Can be shiny, but cannot mimic Iridescence, Material Parts, or Metallic Shimmer without said traits also being applied.
- Feet without defined paws fall under the hooves trait, even if no actual keratin is present.
- Hooves can have one or two points and can be round or pointy.
- Hooves filled with liquid require the Terrarium Keratin trait.

A Hoofshoe Beetle is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:
- Reptilian
- Amphibian
- Sprout
- Marine
- Microbe

Plant Growth (Basic)
Plants or fungus that sprout from a Terralien’s body.
- This trait allows for the addition of new colors without the need for an item. Any new colors can only be applied to the area affected by the trait — adding new colors elsewhere on the body requires a Betta Brush.
- Plant growth cannot cover more than 50% of a Terralien’s body.
- Plants do not need to be based on any real-world species and may be fictional.
- Living plants require the Living Parts trait.
- Flower petals or other plant material — such as leaves — are considered Charms and not plant growth, so long as they are not growing from the body.
- Edible plants may be present as growth, so long as said growth resembles the plant itself and not food. For example: corn kernels or popcorn would fall under the Charms trait, but a corn cob would fall under Plant Growth.

A Jarred Sprout is required to apply this trait to the following subtypes, or to pre-existing designs:
- Marine
- Bug
- Amphibian
- Reptilian
- Beast
- Microbe
- Fossil
Visor Tank Opening (Basic)
A hole or other form of opening in the main visor.
- When adding this trait via a design update, its color must be derived from the visor’s existing glass color. Adding additional colors requires an Inky Leaf.
- Visor contents may protrude or “leak out” of the tank opening.
- This trait only applies to the main visor.
- Tank openings may not exceed 15% of a Terralien’s visor.
This trait can ONLY be applied to the Sprout, Synthetic, Fossil, and Edible subtypes. To apply or remove this trait to a pre-existing Sprout, Synthetic, Fossil, or Edible Terralien, a Jarred Sprout is required.
