At night, the bay was usually a dark place, void of any of the standard light. The villages around it didn’t produce enough light to affect the space around the waves, nor were any set up close enough to the shore to be noticeable from the water. The darkness was something Terraliens in the area had grown used to. It didn’t deter or bother them in the slightest, as many of them had adjusted to the darkness night brought with it. Many of them had even grown to enjoy the familiar darkness.
That meant it was attention-grabbing when small circles of light began to dart in the sky above the waves. Too fast and bright to be stars, many of the marine Terraliens had started to come to the surface to observe them at night. They had become a local spectacle.
They had especially taken Jett's curiosity, which was naturally curious about the world around him. His whimsical nature had led to a great interest in the lights.
All sorts of speculation about what they could be had circled, as many of them had never even heard of aliens or the concept of them before. Tales were short when you all remained in the same body of water for your whole lives. It was different for Jett, as he had traveled quite a bit before settling with Riptide in the bay. Alien stories had been shared by people on boats, so the vague concept of the creatures was known to him.
What else could flying balls of light in the sky be? They had to be the outer space creatures!
When this revelation had been shared with Riptide, his adoptive brother, it had been met with scorn and disbelief. Riptide didn’t believe in aliens. He didn’t believe in anything fun or exciting, so it wasn’t surprising that his brother had been so against his speculation and opinion on the matter.
That didn’t make it any less frustrating!
Determined to convince Riptide of the existence of aliens, and more specifically, that aliens were visiting the planet, Jett had set out to follow the bright lights of the sky. It was hard to keep up with their speed in the water, but he darted through the waves, fueled by stubborn determination to keep up.
Luckily, he wouldn’t have to trail after the UFO for long, as it stopped on an island in the middle of the bay. The light disappeared between the trees, landing towards the island's center.
Crawling onto the shore and beginning to make his way through the trees, Jett peered through the forest line at the spacecraft. He did his best not to be seen while still observing, but he shrunk back slightly as the door to the aircraft opened.
It seems he was coming face to face with an alien.
