Sienna sighed softly as she shook her head.
She knew a thing or two about mechanics, so she offered her help to Lydia - restoring a satellite shouldn’t be too hard, she thought. She’d set up her own Wi-Fi at home. Shouldn’t be more complicated than that.
As it turns out, recalibrating and repairing a satellite was much harder than figuring out how to restart a router.
“Basically, you need to replace the antennae, and then ensure that the dish is calibrated fully to your planet’s rotation,” Lydia explained, their voice slightly crackly through the speakers. “Once you set that up, I should be able to remotely access it, and then I can handle the rest. Pretty simple, really.”
Sienna didn’t like the fact that everything Lydia had said felt foreign to her, paired with that ‘pretty simple’ at the end. Were they trying to make her feel stupid?
“Right. Thanks.” She replied, silently continuing to try removing the current antennae on the satellite. If she asked any further questions, she’d just make herself look idiotic. It was best that she just tried to figure it out on her own.
She twisted the antennae, her own antennae bristling as she felt the amount of resistance it gave. Was that not the right way? Or was it not supposed to be removed like that?
“…You’re supposed to use the screwdriver. To undo the bolts.”
Right. Sienna grumbled under her breath. She knew that.
“If you need me to run through the basics for you, I can—“
“No. It’s fine.”
She could already hear the bitter tone in Lydia’s voice. She had to finish this as soon as possible, with as little issue as possible. Using the screwdriver, she was easily able to pop the old antennae off - and then, fixing the new one in place, use the old bolts to affix it to the satellite properly.
“Great. Do you need me to walk through calibration—“
“I’ve got it.”
She could hear Lydia grumble in turn from the other side of the line.
“If you’re just going to insist on doing things blindly, all you’ll do is waste our time. I’m going to go through it, and you’re going to listen. Understood?”
Sienna’s wings fidgeted. She didn’t like feeling patronized. But she had to agree that she wasn’t quite suited to this task.
“…Fine. Go ahead.”
Lydia cleared their throat before going through the instructions, and Sienna followed them precisely, still feeling somewhat bitter at the fact she needed them at all.
