With the arrival of the new, strange plants came the influx of curiosity from Persephone. Gardening and general plant care was a large interest of hers, and the opportunity to explore a never before seen species was exciting. She wanted to assist the mysterious flora in flourishing; help them thrive.
However, the fact it had jaws provoked interesting thoughts. Was it even a plant, or was it something closer to a creature? That could cause some severe complications.
In the coming days, as expected, she ran into a couple issues.
They were temperamental! Much like toddlers, they got feisty when they were hungry. Persephone had ended up bitten several times, but this didn't discourage her. Especially when she often tended to actual children. At least one of the two could only bite, and there were no little hands tugging at fistfuls of anything within reach.
Persephone quickly learned that these plants needed a bit more than just sunlight and water to keep them satisfied. Through trial and error, she discovered their appetite for small insects and even pieces of raw meat. It became routine to collect various meals for the carnivorous plants. Each feeding seemed to bond them closer to her, as though they were beginning to recognize her not just as a caretaker, but also growing overall fond of her presence. The once daunting jaws now nipped playfully, and Persephone couldn't help but feel a growing attachment to the peculiar plants despite the occasional sting of a bite.
They were like odd dogs, in a way.
The plants began to exhibit behaviors that made Persephone question if they were sentient. When she entered the garden, their jaws would snap and click, almost like a greeting, and they would sway gently as if anticipating her presence. It wasn’t just their hunger that drove them; they responded to her voice, calming when she spoke softly to them, and even reacting to the sound of her footsteps. Despite their alien nature, they seemed to crave attention and interaction. It was this strange, unspoken connection that kept Persephone intrigued.
In a way, they reminded her of the wild animals she'd occasionally helped rescue. Cautious but curious. Untamed, yet capable of trust. There was a mischievous charm to their carnivorous tendencies, and Persephone found herself more captivated by them each day. She started documenting their habits, sketching the details of their toothy petals and making notes of their unpredictable moods. There was still much to learn, but in their own odd way, the plants were becoming a part of her world.
