As the light switched on, the bright clean laboratory seemed to shine as the fluorescent white light bounced off similarly sickeningly white countertops. Supplies from the day before rested on an ivory rack, glass flasks resting upside down as they dried after yesterday’s work alongside their assigned cleaning utensils. One of the taps slowly dripped from the faucet into the hollow drain below echoing the repetitive sound. Dr. Scope sighed as he sauntered over, twisting the handle to its first position. The cleanliness was odd for Dr. Scope’s laboratory, a lingering pungent scent of chemicals filled the room. He was beginning to regret having allowed the faculty to enlist a thorough cleaning of his lab after one of the lab student’s mistakes the night before.
He straightened his coat, pulling out a binder of notes and tossing it on the counter. Loose pages scattered, stained and burnt at the edges due to reckless abandon. As each crumbled page scattered, it began to make the lab feel closer to home. His eyes fell upon a messily packed box with his name written in bold marker, signifying the location of everything he had left out the day before. He pranced around his laboratory putting everything back in its correct place. He organized each trinket and knickknack along the recently emptied shelves. The clock ticked by as he reorganized each and every clean countertop and shelf he could spot. He let out a soft sigh as his work place had now been restored to its original state.
Once Dr. Scope had concluded, he tiptoed around each tiled square, careful as to avoid the small concave that split each shape apart. Trotting over to the sealed freezer door, twisting the handle with vigor. The door swung open as the latch released. The room flooded with a gust of frigid air. He gripped the edges of his coat, being met with the frigid abyss, or rather, simply the freezer. Walking into the maze of storage compartments and supplies.
He twisted and turned throughout his new frosted environment. Specimens were lined in their petri dish chambers, calmed, or perhaps chilled by their frosty atmosphere. Searching within layers and layers of collected multicolored spots growing within this containment. He stopped once he spotted the petri dish labeled L. Acidophilus. Upon locating his specific subject he delicately picked the dish up from its compartment. Preparing to begin his rigorous work for the remainder of the day.
