Submission (#2966) Approved

Gene had arrived at some yard sale he saw while spending his afternoon walking. He was thankful that the sale took place in the garage, the sun was bright and he had broke his sunglasses yesterday. There were countless tables and many people scrambling to find something they liked. He didn’t expect to buy anything, but he figured it wouldn’t hurt to take a look. He looked through a myriad of boxes. There were old clothes, baby supplies, fridge magnets, old silverware, fine china, and Gene was pretty sure he saw a destroyed figure of Megatron. He waved hello to others he passed, and he was slightly impressed by just how many things were at the sale. He bumped into a couple of people, and apologized profusely each time. He now realized the downside to the sale being in the garage: it was far too crowded. “Better than the heat, I suppose..” he muttered as he looked through another box. He saw some books that caught his eye, “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austin, “Good Omens” by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, a book full of poems by Edgar Allen Poe, and “Coraline” by Neil Gaiman. He picked them up and held onto them as he looked through the rest of the yard sale. He witnessed two fellows fighting over a baby stroller and he walked away quickly. Before he was about to go and pay, he noticed a pair of sunglasses, how perfect! He grabbed the sunglasses before anyone else could fight him for them and walked away. He went to the stand where you had to pay, “That’ll be eighteen dollars!” The fellow running the cash box said as they held out their paw for the payment. ‘Eighteen bucks for all those books AND the sunglasses, not bad..’ Gene thought as he handed the money over and picked up the books. He waved goodbye and headed home.
