The crack ran for miles, jagged earth stretching until the horizon. The sky was mostly clear blue with a few wispy nimbus clouds lulling across under the afternoon sun. The air was crisp and warm broken only by the occasional caw of a bird of prey and the screaming of Galthazzar.
“I WANT IT!”
Noodle rolled his eyes while Bebe consoled Galth.
“It’s ok, but you are not having another plastic knife which I’m going to end up confiscating. Stop those tears, come on.”
“BUH- BUH- BUH-“
Athena’s silky voice flowed through.
“Galthazzar, don’t you want to go get a better look of the Wyrm Canyon. Plus, the pawns have been desperate to play with you. If you’re good we’ll stop at the café on the way back, my treat.”
A pile of small terra bodies looked up, having been mentioned. They untangled and rushed over to Galth, nodding eagerly. He tilted his head, considering. Finally he responded sheepishly, “ok…”
The canyon was an epic view, specked with various forms of life of all kinds around the rushing river that flowed through the bottom. Only Athena and Bebe bothered to sit and enjoy the view while engaging in conversation and sipping their drinks. The pawns and Galth were far too busy wrestling and playing tag. They had already absolutely torn through the cakes and other pastries they’d been given. The sugar high was sending them in circles, bouncing up and down.
“Hey everyone! Get in frame for a picture!” Bebe called them all behind him as he angled his phone towards him and the camera. He placed Galth on his shoulder as the pawns flocked to athena who posed gracefully in view. The shutter snapped and captured the perfect moment. The sweet smile of Bean, the iconic grin of Noodle, the eloquent form of Athena and the joyous mess of the pawns. Perfect.
