Keira looked down at the rose in front of her, watching a small bee climb upon it and dig into the center bulb, gathering nectar and pollen. It was a sort of bumblebee, at least she thought so.
She watched it move off of the vibrant red flower and fly away, buzzing softly. How curious.
She dug her fingers into the stem and pulled it from the ground, making sure not to disturb any of the other neighboring flowers or ferns. Twirling it softly in her fingers, she got up from her crouching position.
She scanned the flower-dappled hill, made golden by the setting sun for Cyrus. He was sitting by the end of the slope, looking at the sunset, bees buzzing around him. She walked over and plopped down next to him, folding her legs. Light shown into her visor and the microbes moved slowly in reaction.
“I got this for you.” The pink Terralien said, turning to face Cyrus. He turned to meet her, looking at the flower. “I made sure that the bees were done getting pollen from it.” She said proudly, feeling her fur get warm. He buzzed happily, taking the flower between his paws, holding it in front of his visor. One of the bees orbiting him landed softly on the rose’s delicate petals, searching around the inside before buzzing away.
He took it and turned, facing away from her for a moment. ‘Did he not like it?’ Keira thought, momentarily, before he turned around. A beautiful flower, tropical and pink was in his hand. It matched her fur and the tiny critters inside of her shiny visor.
He slowly tucked it behind her ear and horn, feeling the tips of her ears becoming warm. He let out a soft, content buzzing noise, looking at her as she pressed a hand against the flower.
She turned to the sunset, breaking the stare as she looked at the sun. It was so pretty on him, outlining the fruits nuzzled in his fur and the unique, deer-like patterns adorning him. “You looked very handsome today, Cyrus.” She mumbled. She could feel the smile, even if they knew they couldn’t. “Thank you. You look lovely.” He said; he didn’t talk much, for a personal reason she didn’t understand just yet. But every time she heard his voice, it was as sweet as honey.
He turned too, now watching the sky. “It’s beautiful, just like you.”
