Just a few weeks later, the trio would meet up again. This time, Pitty was hosting and he had extravagant plans. A huge party! Games both physical and virtual alike. He even got a bounce house. This new year was gonna be the best one yet! At least, that’s what the invite said.
“Why’d we let him set this up?” Church asked. “Why are we even doing a fireworks exchange? Fireworks are fireworks. There’s nothing personal about them. And I don’t think I can go into that stupid bouncy castle…” He looked at the sharp points on his exoskeleton. “Did you tell him any of this?” Melody asked. “Well…I mean…” He stammered. “So that’s a no.” The cat in her visor glared at him. “We can bring these problems up next time then.”
“Alright…” He huffed as he knocked on the door. He hardly got to knock once before Pity Party practically tore out the hinges just opening it. “Hey fellas! I’m glad you two could make it!”
“It was nice of you to ho-ooh geez.” She was cut off as Pitty hugged them both and dragged them into his party palace. “Sippy! Cup! Go get the board games! And don’t forget the remotes!”
“Remotes?” Church looked over to see a gazillion tvs set up as one giant screen. They seemed to be hooked up to a computer so the fireworks could be streamed in 4K. “How…how could you possibly afford all of this?” Church asked. Melody quietly looked to Pitty and waited for a response. “Well, you know how I have a job, Church?”
“Yeah. What about it?”
Pitty stared at him. “Get a job, Church and maybe you can have cool stuff like me!”
The bike in his terrarium slowly rolled in a circle as if he was rolling his eyes. “Yeah. I do. And can ya put us down?”
“Oh. Right. Sorry ‘bout that.” He’d let Melody and Church go.
“This is actually pretty cool. I didn’t realize your space was so big.” Melody said as she looked around. “How am I supposed to hold parties without a big space for the bouncy castles and party princesses?” Pitty asked. He headed over to his computer and switched on the count down. “This is just so we can all see everything. Even if we can’t get a good view outside, we can get one in here!”
“That’s a great idea!” Melody mewed. “Also, here’s your fireworks. Well…they’re less fireworks and more like-“ “SPARKLERS!!” He shouted. “And more than enough to share with the lil’ guys. Thank you so much! I’m gonna go get these set up right now! Come here you two!” He called his little henchmen to his side. They’d drop everything and run outside. Melody and Church soon followed.
And there it was. The bouncy castle. It ended up taking up quite a bit of room. Actually most of it. And somehow they were supposed to set off fireworks with this around.
“Church, can you hand me your fireworks?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Didn’t bring any. Just go hide your own. I’ll keep him entertained.”
She sighed as he walked over. “Soooooo neat little castle thing you got going on over here.” Pitty turned around with several sparklers in each hand. “Ya really like it?” His little partners had big smiles on their faces. “They put it together.”
“Yeah I really like the…uhhh…theming. It looks pretty cool.” He said while nodding, trying to come up with anything else. “And I think it’s pretty dope your little henchmen can come up with that.”
“Well, don’t just look at it.” Pitty said as he picked Church up. “Go on in. The heavy duty nylon is just fine.”
“Wait! Wait! No, this isn’t a good idea! I’m all pokey and-ahhhhhh!” Church braced for impact as he was thrown into the bounce house. He curled into a ball and hoped he wouldn’t break it. He’d bounce off the surface and land safely on the wall without a single pop.
“You didn’t really think I wouldn’t plan for you, did ya? I’d be a horrible host if I could accommodate stuff like this.” Pitty said. As they talked, loud booms went off in the background. Church looked up. The bounce house had an open roof that allowed them to see the now colorful sky. Melody would soon hop in along with Pitty. “You’re not supposed to just stand there, ya know.” He said.
“I know, I know.” Church replied. “But can’t you make an exception? The show’s so nice this year.” He said as he kicked back and watched.
Pitty shrugged. “Why not.”
