It was a cold and snowy night. The stars were covered by a blanket of clouds so thick one couldn’t even see a glimmer of the moon. It didn’t help that the sheer amount of snow coming down was building up behind the door. Not that it bothered the cat. Not as much as everyone else anyways. Or rather, a certain someone else.

“I can’t believe this!” Church cried as he kicked the snow that piled around them. Not that it helped. All he was managing to do was make a melted mess on the floor. “I’m stuck in here! With all of you! And-ahh! Oof.” A loud thump could be heard through the house as his endoskeleton hit the floor. He grumbled as he rubbed his hind quarters before quickly getting up. The motorcycle in his terrarium revved up as he swung the door open before slamming it shut with the force of a god. He stomped back over to the living room with soggy paws.

The kitty looked over to him. “…I don’t think it’s that bad.” She said quietly. “We still have each other. Maybe we can do something else.” She looked around the room. Many decorations were still missing. “We can’t buy any more decorations but we can make some.” She slid a piece of paper over to another seat next to her. His gase bounced between the paper and her. “Melody, you can’t be serious.” Church said. If he could roll his eyes, he would. She then slid a plush towards the seat. The small bat held many well loved crayons together in its long, velcroed wing span.

He’d sit down. “Do I have to use crayons?” He asked.

“Only if you keep acting like a child.” The cat in her visor smirked.

“Gah-! Wuh? Well-!” His ears folded back for a moment. “I mean…Well…alright.”

“Then I’ll go get some other supplies. Just wait here.” She patted off to the supply closet where most of her craft stuff was kept. She gently opened the door, watching for anything that may come tumbling out. The cat could hardly look. Knowing how much stuff she cramped in there, it cringed and looked away. But to her surprise there was hardly anything. And the stuff that was there was organized? She closed the door and opened it again. Still nothing. She scratched her head and wandered away from the door before hearing some noise in the kitchen.

“1 Thing, I need you to move it a little bit to the left. Stay right where you are 2 Things.” Pity said.

His little puppets with little red jammies would move the paper banner around.

“This needs to be perfect! She might come any minute now!”

He giggled to himself as taped up the decoration. The kitchen looked stunning. Even with the markers and scraps of paper strun about on the counter. As she walked in she could see it all. A reef above the banner that he and his team so carefully made. Three cups of hot cocoa all prepped with loads of marshmallows on top. There were little snowmen made out of balloons stuck to the walls. A little balloon dog with a paper Santa hat. Little and large paper snowflakes littered the corner of her kitchen. Why? Cause he made an entire full sized pine tree out of papercraft! How did they even manage that?!

“How did you-?” She was quickly cut off.

“Surpriiiiiiiiiiise!” He shouted as he jumped off the kitchen counter. His little mice did jazz hands as they presented the kitchen. “I’m so sorry there’s still such a mess. “1 Thing and 2 Things will get this cleaned up straight away! In the meantime, we should have some fun. I have so many ideas!”

She held a finger up. “Well actually we-“

“Even that stick in the mud will just loooove it! We’re just gonna have such a good time! Look! I made us some hot chocolate too. It’ll keep us niiiiice and waaaaarm… once I figure out how we’re going to drink this. Oh well! I still have a bunch of-!”

“Pitty! Please! I’d like to speak…” Her ears drooped.

“Oh of course! I didn’t mean to interrupt. What did you need?”

She sighed. “Thank you. Anyways, I needed to get some supplies for Church. I thought we could maybe make ornaments together.” She looked over to the tree. “We even have some place to hang them.”

“Oooooh I love that!” He’d look over at his little helpers and snap his fingers. “You two! Put those down and pick up those boxes! We can worry about this later.” The two mice chucked their paper brooms away and helped get all the crafts they needed to its destination. Melody picked up her cup of cocoa with Pity getting the other two.

“It’s about time!” He said as he watched the rats scurry in with the box. He’d take it from them and put it right next to his seat. He opened it up to find scissors, markers, fancy markers, some colored pencils, and a hole puncher. Also lots and lots of papers. There was also some colored string.

“Now that everyone is here….” Pitty said as he sat down next to Church. “We can get the celebration started!” Church sighed. He knew he had no choice in this. “Alright. What are we doing?”

“We’re making paper ornaments.” Melody said. “And thanks to Pitty, we actually have a tree to put them on too. Actually, what were you drawing?” She’d look over and catch a quick glimpse of a bat before Church placed his hand over it. “Nothing really. I was just waiting.” He said. She’d sit down next to him to make a nice Church sandwich. Melody took a piece of paper and was about to start before noticing something. Her bat! She looked around for a moment. It was quickly found at least. Around Church’s neck.

He’d practically feel her staring. She reached out to grab it but he stopped her. “I’ve adopted it for the night. You’re not getting Bitsy back right now.” He couldn’t look at her as he said that. She chuckled as did Pity. “Looks like the grinch’s heart grew three times this year.” Said the clown.

“Oh stuff it.” He growled.

The cat rolled its eyes. “I think you overestimated it a bit. Maybe we should leave it be.”

The trio would go back to making ornaments for the rest of the night. Just enjoying each other’s company.
