The chill in the air was the first indication to Mint that the season was starting to change, the second being the snow flurries that fell like the autumn leaves just months prior. As exciting as it was, she knew she needed to bring her plants in sooner rather than later. She wished that her mint could thrive in the same cold environment that they were associated with feeling and tasting like (from what she had heard, at least). She kept them in a variety of pots, so she knew that trying to get them all in at once would not work out as well as she could hope. But, it had to be done! She shivered, and then started by bringing in the smaller pots first. They were easy to display and didn’t take up much room at this size.
The medium-sized pots she struggled with a bit, but slowly and surely started bringing them in. At the last one, she heard an inquiring chirp behind her and turned around to see Star Snatcher, who she had only really seen in passing but was too nervous to ever really approach, especially due to Star Snatcher’s massive size and reputation as a pirate.
Can I help? Star Snatcher’s sensors blinked as she gestured to the remaining medium and large pots.
A little caught off guard, and very nervous, Mint’s sensors blinked in response, No, thank you! And she bent down to pick up another pot. She fumbled with picking it up at first, and a shiver she didn’t realize she was getting had started to kick in. Star Snatcher quickly and swiftly picked up the pot, pointing questioningly to Mint’s home. Mint hesitated, and then nodded. Star Snatcher nodded proudly in response and picked up a second pot before heading inside. Mint followed, very grateful but still wary of the space pirate’s motives. To be fair, she would have thought Star Snatcher was in space by this point. Curiously, Mint sensors blinked out space? to Star Snatcher, who clicked a soft chuckle in response as she set the pots down.
Need supplies. Star Snatcher responded, ruffling Mint’s fur as she walked past her and back out into the cold start of winter. Mint flinched at first, but the ruffling wasn’t rough. She could tell Star Snatcher was trying to be careful. She followed Star Snatcher out, shivering from the temperature change from inside to outside. Star Snatcher picked up the last two pots, the large ones, with ease. Star Snatcher moved carefully past Mint and placed them down in the safety of the warm indoors. Star Snatcher shuddered, and Mint shut the door.
Sit! Get warm! Mint blinked insistantly, and Star Snatcher quickly and happily sat down and bundled herself up with a blanket nearby. Mint grabbed an extra blanket and sat by Star Snatcher.
Thank you. Mint’s sensors blinked, and Star Snatcher gave a thumbs up, then reached over and ruffled her fur once more. Perhaps space pirates weren’t so bad, and perhaps they too needed to bundle up during the winter.
