Warmth and Companionship

Sanguine and Persephone engage in their hobbies alongside eachother, sharing quiet friendship in front of a blazing fireplace.

The fireplace crackled in the hearth, spreading heat throughout the large room. In this stone hewn castle the chill of winter could be fierce and biting - but Sanguine was a terralien accustomed to the finer things in life, and would not let something as simple as the weather impact the stateliness and comfort of his home. Especially on such a day where he was entertaining company, joined by the rose-scented presence of Persephone.

Each of them sat ensconced in a wingback leather chair, a comfortable distance from the fireplace. Persephones hooves made gentle clacking sounds against the lacquered wood of the chair, as they swung back and forth in her relaxation. The soothing motion of embroidery was a delight, lining up each thread, and pulling it through the cloth held taut by the hoop. A picture coming together line by line, minute stitches adding depth, color and form to a previously blank piece of cloth.

She appreciated this gentle, companionable space held between her and Sanguine - a comfortable silence where each could bask in the warmth of the fireplace and engage in their respective hobbies alongside the other. She shook the messy tumble of her fawn colored hair away from the glass of her visor, readjusting to have a better view of her work. The long fluffy sleeve that covered one arm was brushed back, needing the full range of motion in her paws for the incredibly detailed stitches that comprised the tiny points of thorns along the spiralling roses.

Without breaking the silence, she raised the hoop and angled it toward where Sanguine sat beside her, scribbling away in a notebook propped upon his knees. The motion drew Sanguines attention, and he perused the fine needlepoint work that was being shown to him. He nodded his head serenely, wanting to convey his approval of the fine form of the artwork and his appreciation without breaking the comfortable silence that enveloped them like a heavy blanket of snow. Persephone's ears twitched happily, and Sanguine knew his approval had been felt.

He went back to his notebook, drips and drabs of poetry falling from his mind and landing on the paper. Many lines of random prose, thoughts floating in freeform across the page. He was not yet writing poetry in earnest, instead letting the flickering blaze of the fireplace take his train of thought from one track to another. It was enjoyable to explore the inner workings of his soul, his thoughts and feelings and display them upon the page.

The crackling of the wood in the hearth was a comforting soundscape for his thoughts. Interspersed with the surussus of thread pulled through fabric, and the gentle scratch of pen nib on paper it made a quiet and comfortable symphony. A backdrop for each terralien to practice their artistic hobbies, kept warm by shared camaraderie as the winter chill was kept at bay by strong stone walls and a blazing cheerful fire.
